Tomorrow is a Holy Day of Obligation…

… There. Now you know and you can’t claim to have forgotten. You have to go to mass or suffer the pains of Hell. Unless you are in the diocese of L.A. or Salt Lake City; then never mind. Especially if you worship here, then you’ve probably suffered enough.

Anyway. Behold some pretty art to contemplate, whether you’re celebrating the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God or the Feast of the Circumcision.

Andrea del Sarto, Madonna of the Harpies – just one of my favorite paintings of Mary.

Rubens

Giulio Romano

Now, now, let’s not look down our noses at Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. We’re headed for a second war in heaven if we get there if this is the prevailing attitude. We’re busy enough complaining about who holds hands during the Our Father at our own parishes.

New Year’s Day was in fact a Holy Day of Obligation in LA Archdiocese. I don’t know about Salt Lake City.
