Presidential Duties and Honest Reporting? What’s That Look Like…

… I was going to write something scathing about the intentional under reporting of the horrors in Venezuela and Kiev and how the big B.O. can tweet about House of Cards but can’t be bothered with anything slightly resembling real presidential duties. But all that would be redundant in light of this; the single most compelling look at our disengaged leader I have ever seen written.

Everything is Awesome…For Barack Obama

Barack Obama is the first President optimized for SEO and therein lies the problem. When #Venezuela and #Kiev are the top trends on Twitter for two days straight and not #HouseOfCards or #TrueDetective, the online persona machine that elected Barack Obama goes dark and resorts to a spam account selling us crappy insurance.

At the height of violence that erupted with both protests this past weekend, where was he? Hosting a Hollywood premiere style party for #GeorgeClooney and cast of his film #TheMonumentsMen, in private at the White House, simply because he could. Right now in Kiev, historical statues and art are being burned in front of the world. He was content to remain silent and watch a movie about it happening instead. The real world does not interest this President. The set design does.

@BarackObama (an account run by these people) can tweet about House of Cards Spoilers but can’t be bothered to tweet a statement condemning violence from the regimes in Kiev and Venezuela and sign it -bo. Meanwhile millions of people globally are captivated by the live streams and Hugoesque images of revolution.

If Barack Obama is going to be a viral President, he can’t simply sit out the events of the world as he chooses. The coming out announcement of a former college and future NFL football star cannot outweigh events that have captivated the entire world for two days and cost people their blood and lives.

What we have this morning is no longer the Venezuela story you thought you understood.

Throughout last night, panicked people told their stories of state-sponsored paramilitaries on motorcycles roaming middle class neighborhoods, shooting at people and storming into apartment buildings, shooting at anyone who seemed like he might be protesting. People continue to be arrested merely for protesting, and a long established local Human Rights NGO makes an urgent plea for an investigation into widespread reports of torture of detainees. There are now dozens of serious human right abuses: National Guardsmen shooting tear gas canisters directly into residential buildings. We have videos of soldiers shooting civilians on the street. And that’s just what came out in real time, over Twitter and YouTube, before any real investigation is carried out. Online media is next, a city of 645,000 inhabitants has been taken off the internet amid mounting repression…

As Oliver Stone, another liberal lover or liberal tyrants, said, those being shot in Venezuela are just “sore losers” (v. ).

I heard an amazing, as in horrifying, NPR interview on this a couple of days ago, where the reporter kept challenging the guy from Venezuela he was interviewing, saying things like “but don’t you need time for the reforms to work?” Poor NPR guy; he literally could not grasp that yet another socialist “utopia” is biting the dust.

      • Augustine

The problem is that the socialist utopia has been biting the dust for almost a century now, but the next socialist always justifies his socialism by blaming his predecessors on its failure. Yet, he never objects to the blood of 100 million people spilled in the name of his utopia. He doesn’t because every socialist is always ready to kill in the name of his utopia, be the victim a political opponent or a baby in the womb. After all, the first Christian country to legalize abortion was none other than the USSR.

It’s not that he’s bored, but he really is a bit of the bike-helmeted moron clinging to the back of Vladimir Putin’s mighty steed. There’s a reason his grades get top secret seal; his reputed intelligence is pure party invention. If I were a simpleton like him, damned straight I would be hiding in the media room watching soap operas. I would be scared to death.

    “viral President”
Oh, he is like a virus alright.

Everything is cool when you follow the plan!

Ok, I just saw the Lego movie with my kid and wife for Valentine’s Day….if that song isn’t a major mind worm, I don’t know what is.

Is he just disengaged? I’m not a conspiracy theorist. It’s just so hard to believe that anyone is truly this consistently awol, without there being some underlying reason for it. And no, I have no theories on what that reason would be.
