Randomness and Evolution: Is There Room for God?

Randomness and Evolution: Is There Room for God? September 13, 2012

I’ve written extensively on why I believe that evolution and Christian faith are indeed compatible. For some Christians, this is a controversial statement, but most evangelical scholars would agree: somehow God used evolutionary processes to create the cosmos.

Here’s my series of articles on the issue: Evolving Evangelicalism. If this is a new idea to you and you think I’ve “gone too far” (as many have accused), check out this quote by Billy Graham:

I don’t think that there’s any conflict at all between science today and the Scriptures. I think we have misinterpreted the Scriptures many times and we’ve tried to make the Scriptures say things that they weren’t meant to say, and I think we have made a mistake by thinking the Bible is a scientific book. The Bible is not a book of science. The Bible is a book of Redemption, and of course, I accept the Creation story. I believe that God created man, and whether it came by an evolutionary process and at a certain point He took this person or being and made him a living soul or not, does not change the fact that God did create man… whichever way God did it makes no difference as to what man is and man’s relationship to God.[From: David Frost, “Doubts and Certainties: David Frost Interview (BBC-2, 1964),” in Billy Graham: Personal Thoughts of a Public Man – 30 Years of Conversations with David Frost (Colorado Springs: Chariot Victor, 1997), 73-74.]

Here’s a great video addressing the question of “randomness” and God.
