Brian McLaren on Honest Conversation With Other Religions

Brian McLaren’s has written a new book called:Why Did Jesus, Moses, the Buddha, and Mohammed Cross the Road? I have not read this book yet, but hope to in the near future. Below, is a video based around the general themes of the book.

What do you think about his basic approach to engaging in dialogue with peoples of other faith traditions?

  • This new book seems to be an extension of the “Incarnation” chapter from Generous Orthodoxy. With everything happening in the Middle East right now, this is a good conversation for Christians to have.

I think until we learn to talk to one another within our own Christian tribe, we probably won’t be able to talk to others in other tribes. I just saw where one Christian unfriended another on Facebook over a difference in how one viewed the law.

I also agree with his comments around 8:00 about only seeing those outside of Christianity as those to be converted. That’s huge. I’m moving more to entrusting people to God and just loving them where they are. If an opportunity presents itself for me to present the Gospel, fine. If not, I still believe we can connect at the human level.
