What To Do When Spells Go Wrong

What To Do When Spells Go Wrong June 14, 2018

You’ve taken the time to plot the perfect day for your spell working. You’ve waited for weeks for the right moon phase in the right planetary alignment to support your goal. You’ve got the right candles, herbs, curios, tarot cards, crystals, incense, yadda yadda yadda. You did all the things. All. The. Things. Weeks later nothing has happened, your spell didn’t work and you are deflated. It happens to the best of witches. So what do you do when spells go wrong?

Why Spells Go Wrong

A spell goes wrong for many reasons. The most important thing to remember is to pull up your bootstraps and keep going. Here are some things to keep in mind when things don’t go as planned.

  • It’s Not Right – The thing you wanted to accomplish may not be the right thing for you. Sometimes our spirits, guides, and allies, know better than we do. You might think that job, that lover, or that goal is exactly what you want, but maybe it’s not what you need and it is not leading you on the path that you should be on. Sometimes you have to trust the higher wisdom. Even when that sucks.
  • Your Intention – Spells can fail because we didn’t plan correctly. What was your intention? What it super clear? Crafting an intention for a spell is the most important part of the working. It needs to be specific enough to call in your desire, but open enough to leave room for spirit to work within your intention. There is an art to crafting the right intention. If your spell didn’t work out, rehash your intention and start again.
  • Ingredients – It’s possible that your spell didn’t work because you didn’t complete the process properly or your ingredients were wrong. Not all ingredients were created equal. Herbs, crystals, and the like may be perfect for some folks, but not perfect for you. This isn’t a fault of yours, but you may need to try an alternative. This is especially true if you have no experience with that item. Do your research and try again.
  • More Work Needed – Your situation may need more work which is why your spell didn’t take the first time. Sometimes a situation is super sticky or really challenging. You may have to perform the spell more than once, more than twice, more than a few times.
  • Real World Action – Your spell may have failed because you didn’t take any real world steps after completing your ritual. If you do a spell to get a job, but you sit on your butt watching Netflix every single day, you are unlikely to get a job. Do the spell, but then take real world steps in order for that spell to be successful.
  • To Keep Silent – You’ve actually achieved your goal, your spell worked and now you start telling everyone how bad ass of a witch you are. Talking about a spell, even when it is completed can cause the spell to unravel. You may find yourself right where you were before you did the spell. Just because you achieved your goal doesn’t mean you should flap your gums about it. Remember one of the witch’s powers is ‘to keep silent’.

The bottom line is that spell can take practice. Spells may need a different approach. What is important is t o not give up. Shift your focus. Clean up your intention. Get different ingredients. Get up, dust yourself off, and try again. Don’t give up.
