DVD Release: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

DVD Release: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 November 11, 2011

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is out on DVD today.

Bottom Line: An epic end to an epic series about good versus evil and growing up. Nitpickers will find nits to pick, but I say it’s one of the best flicks of the year.

Read our original review.  Ratings info after the jump.

The Gist: The students of Hogwarts, led by Harry Potter, must rally to fight against the evil wizard Voldemort and his forces. The odds are long. The stakes are high. The fate of civilization rests with a few battered and scared defenders.

The Ups: Fantastic story, good acting, great effects. Most of all, this movie has all the payoff built up from seven other movies. Heroes are born, heroes give their lives fighting for what is right, both heroes and villains reveal their true nature. Did I use the word “epic” already?

The Downs: If you’re a fan, you won’t like that the Hallows are minimized. Also, the action will be too intense for younger children.

Be Aware: Rated PG-13, the tone of the movie is dark and intense, but epic. There is no sexuality and one minor (and extremely satisfying) swear word.

The Verdict: Watch it. Buy it. I recommend this movie for everyone. It is a seminal movie for our times and a wonderful story about growing into the role for which you are destined, even if that role requires sacrifice.
