J. Edgar

J. Edgar February 28, 2012

Bottom Line: Horrifically boring, with equally horrific old age makeup to distract you.

The Gist: Leonardo DiCaprio plays J. Edgar Hoover, the power-hungry former head of the FBI and Armie Hammer is his life-long love, although their homosexual relationship may or may not have been acted upon. In between yearing for each other, he captures gangsters, blackmails politicians, and gathers information on everyone.

The Verdict: Skip it. A movie about forbidden love, gangsters, prohibition, and blackmail has no right to be this boring. Plus, the makeup is astonishingly bad.

Be Aware: The homosexual relationship is the biggest theme throughout the movie, although it is intentionally ambiguous if it was ever consummated. It should be noted that rumors about Hoover circulated for years, but his homosexuality was never confirmed or disproven. Rated R for brief strong language.
