Rest Easy. Bristol Isn’t Living with her Boyfriend

Bristol Palin

Bristol Palin blogs here at Patheos. You knew that, right? So, she and I are, like, colleagues. I cannot wait to see Bristol and Scot McKnight yucking it up at the office Christmas party.

This week, she took to the blog to put some rumors to rest:

In fact, you may have even recently heard rumors I’m living with my boyfriend.  As that gossip spread a couple of weeks ago, people all over America were applauding me for –finally! – coming to my senses and abandoning my no-sex-until-marriage policy.  Others are saying that me shacking up with my boyfriend is the height of hypocrisy.

Here’s the thing.  It’s not true. As I mentioned before, I recently bought a home across the lake from my parents’ house.  While it’s under renovation, I’m actually living in an apartment on their property.  Rest assured — there’s no way on earth my mom and dad would allow a guy to spend the night here with me.

I don’t really care either way.

  • Anne

Ditto to what Travis said. This is supposedly newsworthy? I respected patheos.com until now…

    PTL!

I too am no longer impressed with patheos!

Is she holding his hand though???
And are they doing secular dating or biblical courting?
Did her boyfriend ask permission from her dad to date her?
Is she wearing a sufficiently long dress?
Do they have a chaperone on their dates?
Are they making sure that they aren’t out past dark alone (the only good reason to be alone is that the chaperone went to the bathroom)
All these questions must be answered, as well as having a good, submissive attitude toward her partner, for me to consider this relationship “biblical”

Oh my fundie ideals that I took so seriously once upon a time…

And if she were, so what?

and? no news is no news – perhaps?

Ok. So this is the same Bristol Palin who managed to get pregnant out of wedlock. Where was her “no-sex-until-marriage” policy then. And, I’m not going to rest assured that her parents would never let a guy spend a night with her on their property because she obviously managed to have teen sex without her parents knowing about it for quite some time. The truth is, I really don’t care whether she’s living with her boyfriend or not, maybe Star magazine does but they aren’t me, but her blogging seems a bit unrational and is inconsistent with her history.

One benefit of having Palin in the White House (I can’t believe I just typed that) is that it would be the first time we have an openly dysfunctional first family. Just like Betty Ford did with addiction, it could be a great opportunity to raise awareness about unhealthy family dynamics and hopefully encourage more people to seek out professional help.

Whew! I was so worried about that. Now maybe I can sleep better at night.

  • DanS

Hmm. openly dysfunctional first family. As if Clinton/Lewinsky never happened? As if Jack Kennedy was a faithful husband?

Personally I think this post says a lot more about Tony Jones than it says about Bristol Palin. Disagree with someone politically – attack the kids. Great example for an erstwhile theologian, seminarian and youth ministry expert. Really classy. I value your spiritual insight so much more now.

    • Evelyn

      1. Tony didn’t say anything political nor “attack”ing of Bristol Palin in his post. The commentators may have but he didn’t.

      2. If Bristol doesn’t want her personal life analyzed she shouldn’t blog about it. She put it out there so it’s fair game. I was going to say that she makes a lot of money off of exposing her personal life but she only has a net worth of $1 million according to web sites. Her low net worth makes me think she must just be stupid for not capitalizing more on the negative press that she stirs up.

      3. If the Palins don’t want their personal life perused then they shouldn’t have made a reality series about it. You can’t have it both ways.

    • ME

I didn’t see any attack there, maybe a little joking around but nothing mean. My first impression was Tony was being a team player for Patheos by mentioning another blog.

  • Frank

Yes we should make fun of someone who is trying to do the right thing. See that little spec in the water in your rear view mirror? That’s the shark you jumped over way back when.

Evelyn just look at the first two words of this post heading to see Tony’s snarky commentary. Don’t try to defend the indefensible as you lose credibility in the process.

I believe her. Across the lake is a crazy nitwit lady with an arsenal. Sarah Palin is very blessed that Earth Day participants are peaceful. That family makes my blood boil. For the life of me I cannot figure out how she has more than a dozen followers

    • pagansister

What is scary, Colleen, Sarah has many followers. Fortunately I think any political ambitions are now null and void.

  • pagansister

I actually posted on her blog a few minutes ago—couldn’t resist, since she seemed to make a point of telling us she wasn’t messing about with her new boyfriend. Maybe being pregnant from the first one made an impression—probably not–just now she uses birth control. Anyhow I told her that IMO she really didn’t commit any “sin” (since I don’t believe in “sin) by having her baby outside of marriage, but that it is interesting that she makes a point of telling everyone she is waiting for a ring and not living with the current boyfriend. Actually, who really cares?

  • Colleen

Pagansister, you know, I’m not so convinced she wrote that article herself. If she did, it was nice to read more than just a few sentences.

  • Colleen

That is if those sentences were indeed written only by Bristol

  • pagansister

Colleen, just a question—why would Bristol have a site to post on if she wasn’t writing things herself? Obviously she could have a “ghost writer”. :o)

  • Colleen

She does have a ghost writer:) I already knew that from when she was on DWTStars. If she is not writing her own articles by herself on this site, that is pretty pathetic.
