A Better Atonement cover

Free Today!

In honor of Ash Wednesday, I have discounted the cost of my book, A Better Atonement: Beyond the Depraved Doctrine of Original Sin to be free for today only. It’s a helpful primer on various theories of the atonement over the years, and it might make some good Lenten reading for you.

And, in other Free news, there’s now a free copy of my app, Ordain Thyself. Download it today!

I bought this book last month. It could not have come at a better time for me as I felt trapped by ideology regarding PSA, and alone in my need for other ways at looking at atonement. Thanks for writing it.

Thank you for the free download. I just finished reading it and I found it very helpful. I affirmed PSA only because it seems to be the default view within evangelicalism, but, something always bugged me about it. I could not fathom why Adams transgression universally affected everyone, essentially damning them, but Christs atonement didn’t universally save everyone. In this theory Christs atonement is somehow inferior to Adams sin. That even Christ couldn’t fix his mistake and I just can’t accept that. To be consistent I think that to affirm penal substitution one would also have to affirm universalism. If one takes the first part of romans 5:19 as original sin wouldn’t one also have to take the second part as universal redemption?

Anyway, I hadn’t done much study into atonement theories and I can really appreciate the solidarity theory. Looks like I have some reading to do!
