The new year is a time when many people celebrate and welcome new beginnings. Traditionally in New Orleans Voodoo and Southern Conjure, a large pot of collard greens are cooked to ensure financial success for the coming year. In my post about New Year’s Tradition, I give a full recipe for these delicious greens if you would like to try it for yourselves. In some Scottish homes on New Year’s Eve they celebrate first footing. This is a custom that Elaine Lemm, British food expert, describes as the custom of visiting friends after midnight, the first foot person “ traditionally is a dark, handsome male carrying a piece of coal, whisky, Scottish shortbread and black bun – a rich dark fruitcake encased in pastry. The visitor in return is given a small glass of whisky. “ This is done to ensure blessings and bounty both for the individuals, and the community.
The following New Year’s prosperity spell contains simple ingredients you probably have on hand right in your kitchen. Coffee is included to bring about new opportunities. Parsley finds it’s way here to help your heal and conquer any obstacles that are standing in your way. Myrrh is added to bring special blessings and gifts from the divine. Gather all the ingredients together, and then you are ready to begin.
Easy Tea Lite Prosperity Spell For the New Year
Ingredients:
6 tea lites
½ teaspoon dried parsley
½ teaspoon dried myrrh
½ teaspoon dried coffee grounds
Florida Water
Sprinkle Florida Water around your home in a circle, moving counterclockwise throughout the space. Next combine all the dried ingredients together in a small bowl. Mix well. Heat the tealites on your coffee warmer just until they begin to soften. You can place a piece of aluminum foil over the warmer to protect it, but also make sure the is no wax attached to the bottom of the candle cups. Once the candles have started to liquify, place a pinch of the herbal mixture in each. Sprinkle it around each candle cup to evenly distribute it. Turn off your coffee warmer/pot. When the candles become solid again they are ready for use. Be careful not to bump into the wax and make a mess (like I did.) If you have any of the herbal mixture left over, sprinkle it on your threshold. For best results begin the following after midnight howling on New Year’s Eve. Take three of the candles and light them. Concentrate on the new beginnings, open doors, and opportunities to come. You will have three candles left, as the coming year progresses light another each time you feel the start of a new chance coming on. This could be when you have a job interview, important decision, or choice to make. Again focus on the new paths to come. This spell can easily be doubled, you will just need to do two rounds of melting on your coffee warmer.
