I was approached a while back by atheist channel head, Dale McGowan, about doing a collaborative blog with some people from other channels here at Patheos.  The result was a new blog between myself, Mark Sandlin (Presbyterian minister, writes at The God Article), and Jason Mankey (Pagan blogger at Raise The Horns). There are two posts up already and we’re working on a third.  It’s just the three of us getting together and trying to hash things out, but at... Read more

Good morning, all!  Sorry to be away this week, but it was the wife’s off week before med school starts so we took a road trip.  🙂  I may post pics later. Speaking of med school, I dropped her off for her orientation just a few minutes ago.  It’s actually happening.  O.o  She may have been a little anxious. But anywho, I’m back in my office and, oh look!  Trump selected Gov. Please-Carry-This-Election-For-Me-Evangelicals as his VP candidate.  We’ll have some... Read more

Hey gang!  Sorry about yesterday.  The wife has a week off before med school starts, so we ran some errands for her and then spent the day snuggled up. As for today, we’re gonna head 90 minutes down the road in a sec to fill out some paperwork, so I’ll be out again. But worry not!  Today there is cause for celebration!  Bernie Sanders has officially (rather than unofficially, as he has multiple times in the past, but the Bernie... Read more

Good morning! I’m late getting to morning happiness this morning because, well, I spent my morning making happiness. First: I am to cooking what a toddler is to rocket science — shitty, bad, and altogether not good.  However!!!  My last two attempts have yielded splendid results (recall that I’m becoming more of a house husband as the wife begins med school).  I made slow-cooker oatmeal last night.  The raisins absorbed a lot of the cinnamon and brown sugar overnight and... Read more

I’ve been toying around with the idea of just posting a blog at the end of the day with all the news stories I found interesting, but which didn’t get posted.  Welp, since the wife is home early today (from her last day of volunteering with Americorps for a year!), I’m going to try it so we can go celebrate.  🙂 Billy Graham talks about how god can change the mind of even committed atheists.  I guess he just chooses... Read more

I’ve been on a fair number of podcasts in my time (boy, how old do I sound?).  One of my favorites is No Religion Required hosted by Bobby Cary and Miss Ashley, along with Jeremiah Traeger and Morgan Stringer.  It’s a lot of fun, and the hosts are some of the sweetest people I’ve ever come across in all my time in the atheist movement. Sadly, cancer (being the bitch that it is) doesn’t discriminate.  It can turn its head... Read more

The Archbishop who heads the Catholic Church in Philadelphia has made it clear that divorced people don’t get another crack at a fulfilling relationship if they still want to eat the Church’s crackers and drink its grape juice: The head of the Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia is closing the door opened by Pope Francis to letting civilly remarried Catholics receive Communion, saying the faithful in his archdiocese can only do so if they abstain from sex and live “as... Read more

Thanks to my mom for this: scratch scratch…flop My advice? I’ve only had half an eye on the news this morning (I made taco meat and rice…I’m a horrible cook), but don’t look at it today.  Close your eyes, watch some TV.  All the shootings in the last 24 hours will still be getting reported on tomorrow.  :\ Read more

It has been my absolute delight today to follow the tweetings of people at the Ark Encounter protest. For those who haven’t been following, Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis secured millions of dollars in taxpayer incentives to open their park all while claiming it was a tourist attraction, not an attempt at sectarian evangelizing (it’s a giant monument from the bible, so why would anybody think that?)  This was, of course, a lie.  So…apparently the bible is true, through... Read more

Good morning, all!  For some additional morning happiness, many of my voice students are making spectacular progress this summer.  A few have looked back to songs they sang last year and wondered why they thought the songs were so hard.  This brings a tremendous amount of fulfillment to my life. Anyway, here’s the real morning happiness: View post on imgur.com Read more
