I’m in St. Louis this morning after a lovely time with the O’Fallon Freethinkers last night.  Today is a day of seeing old college friends before heading home tomorrow morning. This is how I spent my morning:   Read more

Tonight I’ll be at the O’Fallon Freethinkers meetup in O’Fallon, MO (basically St. Louis).  The event starts at 7pm at the 109 Brewhouse.  I’ll be a little late as I have a prior engagement, but I will be there! It also means I get to hit the road right about…now.  Hope to see some of you out there! I’ll also be in Boise, Idaho and Fayetteville, Arkansas giving talks at the end of this month.  More on those dates to come.... Read more

Good morning, everybody! Now I’m off to make some morning happiness of my own.  I’m going to drive up to Lawrence to take the wife to lunch, then into the weeds of Kansas to teach youngsters how to sing.  🙂 Read more

Sarah Palin could be getting a courtroom reality TV show akin to Judge Judy: Move over, Judge Judy. There’s a new TV courtroom judge coming to town – and it’s none other than former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. The onetime vice presidential candidate has been tapped to preside over a new reality court show that would premiere next year. She signed a deal in February with Montana-based production company Warm Springs, a source close to the process tells PEOPLE. “It’s... Read more

This is pretty swank.  The World Psychiatric Association, the largest and most influential such body on earth, is about to make it clear that gay-conversion “therapy” is ineffective and dangerous: The association will release a report tomorrow that will declare its opposition “to any attempts to turn LGBT people heterosexual,” in reference to the effectiveness of so-called conversion therapy. Along with declaring the inefficacy of such therapy, the WPA also called on governments around the world to decrimalize homosexuality: “WPA... Read more

It turns out that a small Borough of New Jersey, Clayton, has a city seal (and sign) which pretty clearly endorse religion, but also Christ-based religion: The Freedom From Religion Foundation wants a New Jersey borough to get rid of its unmistakably religious seal and motto. The official seal of the borough of Clayton depicts a church and a Latin cross, with the accompanying motto reading: “A Great Place to Live and Play, Work and Pray.” The inclusion of a... Read more

You’ve probably heard by now that last night Brussels was the victim of a massive terrorist bombing.  I honestly try not to write about these things.  I’d sooner let the world move on, denying these monsters the attention they crave. But it always seems like the wake of these travesties are similarly dominated by people who swear up and down that if we’d just supported their pet causes more, no matter how unrelated, this whole mess could’ve been avoided.  Enter... Read more

A member of the Willard (Willard was a town next to my college, I blame my brain) Millard school board in Omaha, Paul Meyer, dedicated some of their last meeting to trying to rename “Winter Break” to “Christmas Break.”  Something about religious persecution if his personal religion isn’t held aloft by a government tasked with equally representing everybody: Meyer’s proposal garnered sympathy but no support from fellow board members. He made his proposal during a discussion prior to adoption of... Read more
