Here are highlights from the interview on the LIVE @ 5 Kat Kanavos Show on New World International.

Kat: When & how did you become interested in flying?

Lori: There was a kid in my High School class who told me he was taking flying lessons. I couldn’t believe that we were old enough to do that. I ran home and told my parents. My birthday was coming up and for a present, my Dad took me to the airport for an Introductory Flight. From then on, I was hooked. I continued to take lessons and received my Private Pilot’s License before graduating High School.

Kat: What do you love about flying? Were you excited, exhilarated or did you have second thoughts?

Lori: I loved the feeling of being above the Earth. It is a very different perspective. I referred to it as God’s view. I also liked the skill involved. It was something that I got better and better at; making the plane do what I wanted it to do.

Kat: What did you do in order to make flying your career? Take us through the steps that went from hobby to love to career.

Lori: First I went to college. My parents insisted that I get a college degree. After college, I followed my family to Los Angeles, California where my Dad had been transferred to the year before. I started flying again. I found out what the career path was and what the qualifications were for the type of job I wanted. My goal was to accumulate FAA ratings, which are given for various levels of expertise, and flying hours to qualify for a job as a professional pilot.

Kat: Did you get any funny reactions from the passengers when they saw you in the cockpit?

Lori: Actually there was an older gentleman on my flight who was wearing a leather jacket with quite a few patches on it. And because I had a sweater on, which was part of the uniform, he said to me, “Where are your wings!!!?” and I said, pointing to the airplane, “Well there’s 1 right here and there’s 1 on the other side as well.” I don’t think he was amused, but, I thought it was hilarious!

Kat: What is the one thought you would like to leave with our audience?

Lori: Live your dream. The life lesson I learned from all this is don’t settle for less in life. The corporate glass ceiling is moving higher in the working environment. Aim for the clouds and break through it. The sky is the limit.
