Yes, Your Thoughts DO Create Your Reality!

People ask me all the time if I believe in The Law of Attraction. I certainly do! It’s very real. People have no idea how powerful their thoughts are.  My introduction to this concept occurred many years ago when I read Dr. Joseph Murphy’s book, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind.”

When I began my spiritual journey, I decided to read everything I could find on spiritual growth. And I asked God to guide me to the best reading material.  On many occasions, when I visited a bookstore, a book would fall off and hit me on my foot.  This happened over and over, and when it happened, I knew that God was guiding me.

This Book Had a Huge Impact on Me

One book that fell off and hit me on my foot was “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind.”  This book had a huge impact on me, and I still read it again every year.  Here is what critics say about this book:

“It is one of the most brilliant and beloved spiritual self-help works of all time which can help you heal yourself, banish your fears, sleep better, enjoy better relationships and just feel happier. The techniques are simple, and results come quickly. You can improve your relationships, your finances, your physical well-being.”

Your Formative Years Affect Your Thoughts Today

So much of your thought process comes about through what transpired during your formative years.  These are the times when what you see, or hear, or experience bad situations, it will form your thinking for the rest of your life.  So, without realizing it, what you THINK is what you GET.

Think about the negative people or unhappy situations in your life today. And think of how those negative Core Issues from your formative years are attracting unhappy situations today.  So, you have always thought that you were powerless to change these unhappy situations. But you never knew that YOUR NEGATIVE THOUGHTS WERE ATTRACTING THEM TO YOU!

Your Negative Thoughts Attract Negative Things

Here is an example of how The Law of Attraction can attract negative things into your life. I have a friend who was raised by a mother who told her at a very young age that she never wanted her. What a horrible thing to say to a young, innocent child.  Yet that thought settled in my friend’s mind, that she was unlovable.

And that thought became a self-fulfilling prophecy. She continually attracted abusive men who treated her poorly. Also, because she didn’t like herself, she had very few friends.  Fortunately, my friend finally had enough and left her abusive mate.  So, she started reading books that explained why she kept attracting these abusive men and is now beginning to understand two things.

My Friend Woke Up to the Truth

First, that her mother and these abusive men are the ones with the problem; it’s really not about her.  Second, she now understands the importance of changing her negative thoughts to positive thoughts and accepting that she deserves good things.

Here is Another Example

Here is another example.  A friend revealed that her relationship with her older sister has always been strained. And now as she gets close to 70, she is wondering if it will ever be possible to have a loving relationship with her.

So, I asked her how her sister made her FEEL. She said that her sister made her feel inadequate, irresponsible, not good enough.  Whenever my friend achieved a certain level of success, and was feeling proud of her accomplishments, her sister always came back with all her teenage antics that made her feel bad again.

Her Sister was Mirroring the Way She Felt About Herself

I explained that all souls we encounter, and especially family members, agree on a soul level to help us work through the challenges that we wrote into our script for soul growth. Her sister chose the role of being the mirror of my friend’s feelings about HERSELF.

My friend had a few wild years as a hippie back in the 1960s, living in a commune, smoking pot, and “seeking enlightenment.”  After a few years, she became disillusioned with this lifestyle and moved on.  She graduated from college and went on to be a successful businesswoman.

Yet, her guilt over her parents’ heartbreak and concern over her “wasted years,” as she calls them, settled in her mind, convincing her that she was a bad person and a failure.

She Felt She Wasn’t Good Enough

So, the truth was that everything her sister pointed out about her shortcomings was really the way SHE FELT ABOUT HERSELF – THAT SHE JUST WASN’T GOOD ENOUGH!  I asked her if she was ready to forgive herself for something that happened over 50 years ago.  And she ruefully admitted that it was about time.

So, once she understood her sister’s role of mirroring the way she felt about herself, she could now silently bless her sister, thank her, and say, “Thank you. I am grateful for showing me this. I am releasing you from your role.”

My Friend Could Finally Forgive Herself

And then she could say, “What I DO know is that I am a Child of God, a Spark of God’s Divine Love.  I am PERFECT!” I told her to say this statement every day while looking in the mirror until she believed it. I told her to watch the relationship with her sister change, now that she had overcome that challenge.  She could finally begin to have a loving relationship with her.

So, my friend began the process of forgiving herself.  And she tells me that her relationship with her sister has changed to one of love, laughter, and support for each other.

It’s Time to Give Yourself a Break

If you find yourself in similar situations, then it’s time to give yourself a break.  All of us have experienced situations that made us feel bad or convinced that we just weren’t good enough.  If you could only see yourself the way God sees you, or in His words to me, “I love you for WHO YOU ARE, not WHAT YOU DO.”
