The theology of freedom

The theology of freedom November 17, 2004

As the UK decides to limit peoples “freedom” to hunt animals the question of what should and shouldn’t be regulated by the state comes to life again.

Yes, to the comment writer that pointed out that we have a “state church” (perhaps it should be described as a church in a state….?) I acknowledge that the politics of religion are not a US only matter. Sorry if I implied they were.

But a key question for us is do we see the “Freedom” so trumpetted by the likes of Blair and Bush as a creation that came out of Christian values or rather a creation of atheistic evolutionism? I plump largely for the first, but to allow the freedom that the father of the prodigal son did to his wayward son is often very difficult for a moral believer to stomach.
