The Edge of England’s Sword described the BBC as a cornered rat. Michael Howard gets a pasting by one of the comments there likening him to Gollum of The Lord of the Rings: “He did lie! He did, he did. We hates him, we hates him so much! We should rule, my preciousss! Nassty, horrid New Labour…spin doctorsss…Tony’s croniessss…”
Funny if not particularly fair. Mind you Tony pasted Michael Howard himself earlier this week rather nicely (from the perspective of the labour benches anyway)
I had to find the quote in the The Sunas it has disappeared from the BBC site- strange huh?
Tony Blair about Michael Howard “Being nasty is not the same as being effective. Being opportunistic is not the same as leadership…His allegations of dishonesty have been found to be untrue…He might have had the decency to come here and withdraw those allegations he made about saying I lied….Today was a test of character which he has failed. “
And people wonder why we are all so cynical about politics. When there is spin about who did or didnt leak the results of an inquiry set up to settle a battle about a story that had a grain of truth in it but was apparantly spun by the BBC to show that the government deliberately spun intelligence reports to ‘sex up’ a document which has been more or less shown to have been gloriously wrong (but we trust in good faith, and not therefore a lie) is it any wonder that few of us can get to the end of the sentance?
