This is now the third time I have posted this article. In many ways, nothing much has changed as the years have gone by. I have therefore lightly edited the article but republish it today more or less as I originally published it. The world will never forget 911. Each year I say it, but it still feels in a way like yesterday, despite the fact it is an age ago. We now live in the post 911 world. I... Read more

I listened to the first of nine new recordings that have been made freely available of the Doctor’s last visit to the USA.  He chose to begin by talking about prayer. It is striking how he describes prayer as a real challenge.  We must learn how to wrestle in prayer.  I am constantly being provoked by that challenge to fight in the private place.  Rather than be discouraged by failure, lets press into God and meet him in the place... Read more

Every now and then you read an article that says it right. This Guardian article is one such article and describes boys as follows: “A lazy youth becomes a burden to those parents, whom he ought to comfort, if not support. But you can no more rouse them, with all of their fine arguments, than you can a log. There they lie, completely enchained by indolence… Business tires him; reading fatigues him; the public service interferes with his pleasures. Ask... Read more

Terry was prompted by the release of several new recordings of the Doctor’s preaching to blog about two times he met with Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones. It makes compelling reading.  He quoted the doctor as telling the young reformed charismatic, “the greatest sin of the evangelical church is telling God what He could not do.” Terry also spoke about a powerful moment when the Doctor had been preaching: On another deeply memorable night at the Chapel, he started his sermon in... Read more

Over the summer I read memoirs written by the so-called “Third Man” of New Labour, Peter Mandleson.  I found him an engaging writer.  And I enjoyed reflecting on what we can learn as leaders from politicians. Some matters are clearly “natural revelation,”  if we can learn from the ant according to the wisdom of Proverbs, surely we can learn from people too.  Long-term readers of my blog will not be surprised that my impression of Gordon Brown after reading those... Read more

I really enjoy watching Brian Mowrey’s video interviews. This one with “Bones” is no exception. Watch and enjoy! This reminded me of when I interviewed Mbonisi myself. Read more

Yesterday I spoke about how Terry Virgo and Tope Koleoso are both great at promoting books. Today I want to highlight another aspect that they both in my view stand out in, and it is one that is even more important. This is their commitment to prayer, and corporate prayer in particular. Prayer is vital to the Christian and in this short video shared by my friend Bryan Mowrey Tope explains why. At the beginning of the year we captured... Read more
