Teething problems with the wordpress install were I am sure inevitable given the size of my blog (over 3600 posts!). We had a minor issue today as the site required some significant surgery behind the scenes. It should be back working again. Sorry for any inconvenience. If it is still looking somewhat odd then you may need to refresh your browser cache (on Firefox on a mac for example you do this by hitting command-shift-R. Read more

My final sermon of the year was preached at Jubilee Church, London. You can download audio and video or watch it here: download audio Philippians 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” Speaking about joy—Season of goodwill is upon us—“Happy Christmas” we say, but it can be a stressful and sorrowful time for many. An epidemic of depression. Some biological, but much caused by wrong thinking and difficult relationships. Everybody wants to be happy—even the person... Read more

Invitations are starting to come in for me to speak about the resurrection. In particular, some churches are suggesting I speak for a midweek evening service, either before or after the Desiring God Pastors Conference (1st-3rd February 2010) in different parts of the USA. We are looking at the logistics of that. As the plans begin to firm up, this is your chance to drop me an email to explore if it may be appropriate and logistically possible for me... Read more

I want you to take a good long look at your husband or wife today. Right now. Go look at them. Do the same for any children you have. And think of your closest friends too. Then thank God for them. You don’t know how long you will have them. They could be gone in an instant. I could have lost my beautiful daughter Charis today. If the chicken bone that stuck in her throat had done so just a... Read more

Matt Chandler is now in rehab, with a weakened left side after brain surgery. Pathology results are awaited and so our prayers are still much needed.  I suspect, however, there is something that Matt would crave even more than our prayers—that is that we would be inspired by his message to run after our Lord Jesus with all our might. He is truly worthy of such devotion. I thank God for the wonders of technology that allow Matt, though he... Read more

I received this testimony from someone in an email recently.  I asked them if I could share it here anonymously and they graciously agreed.  Having grown up as a cessationist, God had other plans for them: I set myself to reading all I could find on the subject, searching the Scriptures, and praying over the matter. It became more and more clear to me that the “proof text” of cessationism was completely out of context. The Lord showed me how... Read more

I continue to watch with interest the work of those guys at  The City.  Like many I guess I swing from at times thinking that it is just an attempt at a Christian Facebook to thinking “wow, this is going to revolutionize the way we all do church.”   I guess the truth lies somewhere in the middle.  The City won’t be for everyone.  But, for some churches it is going to provide a very helpful solution to a raft... Read more

Well, forget for a moment the foundations of this new house of ours. Forget that some of the tantalizing new features remain switched off while we make sure that the server can continue to cope. Forget even about the content that is hopefully easier to read and find with the new design. The thing that is causing some discussion in the Warnock household is what about the color of the sidebars? It seems that both my family and the rest... Read more
