Today is a day for good news! Freedom for Chinese people is of course tied up with freedom for Chinese bloggers, and microsoft have made a potentially costly decision which I applaud. Microsoft amends blog shutdown policies “The Redmond software company, operator of a popular blogging technology called MSN Spaces, said Tuesday that it will endeavor to make blogs available to users elsewhere even if Microsoft decides it is legally obliged to block them in a particular country. The company... Read more

In a blow for Tony Blair, the UK government has failed to pass the repressive legislation it was threatening to. The EA is thrilled, and I am envigorated- I hadnt chosen to write about it as to be quite honest I was feeling quite hopeless about it. Perhaps you will see me getting involved in future campaigns a little more on this blog. As an example of the way that attempts to promote religious “tolerance” can actually be incredibly intolerant,... Read more

I have recently discovered the HTB podcast and was listening to Nicky Gumbel. He said of Christian meditation "if you know how to worry you know how to meditate".  I quite like the idea of meditation as "worrying" about a verse from the bible.  We are very good at ruminating, and instead of trying to empty our minds, Christian meditation is all about filling them.      Incidently, some interesting podcasts can be found  using  iTunes by looking at the most frequently downloaded... Read more

UPDATEIn January 2008, the following post was identified as the 21st all-time most popular post with readers of this blog. The 22nd most-read post was my interview with Dr. Albert Mohler, radio host and theologian. Mark Dever is a great man of God, and was very much the initiator of the set of relationships now described as “Together for the Gospel.” I interviewed Mark for a second time in a post entitled, “Theology for All—An Interview With Mark Dever,” and... Read more

I am allowing the new design to bed in, and would value opinions about what you like and dont like about it. In particular, which of the items on the side bar do you tend to click on, and which dont you? Are there any side bar items you would like to see go, or any that you think I should add? Also, I have a slight glitch in that some of my posts have carriage returns that are not... Read more

This morning I preached at Jubilee, and the audio is now available to download. I spoke about the distractions that life going well can bring us, and how to counteract this. God was merciful and many responded to ask God to help us to strengthen our prayer lives. Two also responded to the call to respond for salvation or rededication. Praise God with me for a great morning, which when I think about it makes me feel humbled by the... Read more

Mark Dever wrote: “Church membership either turns you into a servant, or proves to you that you’re not one.” There is a wealth of wisdom in that quote, and I suspect a wealth of experience behind it! I would love to know what you my loyal readers make of it. Read more

Imagine my surprise to read the following post over at Miscelanies on the Gospel . To be honest it was just what I needed tonight. It is probably a bit over the top, but I need to remember that it is as wrong for me to be sitting here doubting that God has made me to be a fit preacher to preach in the cinema tomorrow as it is for me to be complacent and self-sufficient. This has been a... Read more

As I cannot listen to Mark this weekend, I am listening right now to his sermon entitled “Faith and the Future” from 1996. I found this sermon by downloading a list of almost 600 sermons in a word document and searching it using my wordprocessor. The passage is James 4:13-5:11 which I intend to cover in my sermon on Sunday. It is a great sermon, and I can see why Mark is friends with CJ. In the sermon he quotes... Read more
