Prayer at yesterday evenings meeting focused on praying for the church, and mainly our own local church. We unashamedly spent some time praying for substantial growth in our numbers. It is funny how so many people today struggle with the notion of churches aggressively going after such growth. Tope had a brilliant line, he said, “we want numbers because every number is a person” There was a holy moment when we really started to cry out for the lost, and... Read more

Last night I was on babysitting duty but my wife tells me that our evening prayer meeting focussed once more on our nation, but also the nations of West Africa. One of the most exciting things that happened in 2005 was us as a church beginning a partnership with the newfrontiers churches in West Africa. John Kpikpi is a real man of faith and prayer who heads up that whole region. His gentleness and devotion to the cause of Christ... Read more

John Piper: “What I am saying is that it is not the doctrine of God’s sovereignty which thwarts prayer for the conversion of sinners. On the contrary, it is the unbiblical notion of self-determination which would consistently put an end to all prayers for the lost. Prayer is a request that God do something. But the only thing God can do to save a lost sinner is to overcome his resistance to God. If you insist that he retain his... Read more

Well, if you cant tell that Marc Barnes and I have been tweaking this template, it probably means you are not a blogger! This is your final chance to be as pedantic as you like, and tell us where we went wrong before I put my blogger template and CSS file into cold storage until the next time I get an urge to renovate. Judging by how much of an improvement Mark’s fresh pair of eyes and coding skill have... Read more

Just to prove that the snow of a couple of weeks ago wasnt a fluke, it decided to snow once again last weekend. Intrestingly, it didnt snow everywere, and within a few hundred yards of this photo, the snow was replaced with more typical English Rain. Someone could have been within yards of this photo and not realised the miracle that was happening. O I know my more scientific readers will say “Its not a miracle, its the science of... Read more

This morning by Gods grace more than 10% of our sunday congregation gathered at 7am to pray. It has to have been God who put such a desire in so many peoples hearts to leave their beds for prayer- and of course many might have been on their way to work and thus unable to make it. After beginning with our praise and thanks to God we focused on praying for the UK. What better a way to begin the... Read more

This morning my pastor preached a sermon launching our new series ‘Prayer works’. Tope put out a clear call to us to join in our church’s week of prayer and fasting. I loved his line about ‘detoxifying the soul’. Denying yourself something for a season in order to seek God can only do you good spiritually. Tope quoted Jesus description of the temple which is surely to be applied to the church today it should be ‘a house of prayer... Read more
