Praying for numerical growth

Praying for numerical growth January 11, 2006

Prayer at yesterday evenings meeting focused on praying for the church, and mainly our own local church.

We unashamedly spent some time praying for substantial growth in our numbers. It is funny how so many people today struggle with the notion of churches aggressively going after such growth. Tope had a brilliant line, he said, “we want numbers because every number is a person”

There was a holy moment when we really started to cry out for the lost, and also for those believers who are scattered without any real sense of belonging to the people of God.

I really don’t know how people survive life’s ups and downs without the family of God around them. Is it so very wrong for churches to intentionally try and gather people to themselves to introduce them to the God of the bible? Is it wrong to yearn for a preacher to see salvation week after week as he stands to preach?

I don’t believe it is.

So this year, I unashamedly say, I want our church to grow, and to grow really fast. I hope that you are able to join me in praying the same for your own church.
