GospelDrivenLife tells his story of how he became a Reformed charismatic or continuationist : “My own journey was sparked by Lloyd-Jones on the Spirit of God in his sermons in Romans 8. His historical survey made me see that my anti-Spirit-experience prejudice was the minority position of the Protestant era. J I Packer’s excellent work, Keep in Step with the Spirit, moved me to appreciate the marks of the Spirit in the charismatic world. This was informed by Edwards defense... Read more

Any mention of Evangelical Christians in either a neutral or positive light in the British Media is well worth celebrating. We generally get such a bad press over here that the scraps of a neutral mention is worth its weight in gold. So, I was really pleased to come across the first mention of this blog in the print media anywhere in the world that I am aware of so far: The Guardian said : “the UK Evangelical Blog, run... Read more

This kind of thing saddens me and I have debated about whether or not to give it airtime. This weeks row has in my view not been the best blogging moments of several on both sides. I am not planning on taking sides, but would like to take this opportunity to share some lessons that I have learnt the hard way by my own mistakes in the past. This time round I am sitting on the sidelines, but for sure... Read more

UPDATES I have posted more about definitions of a Reformed position, and degrees of being a charismatic elsewhere. In January 2008, the following post was identified as the 7th all-time most popular post with readers of this blog. The 8th most-read post was my interview with C. J. Mahaney, who heads up Sovereign Grace Ministries. In this post I endeavor to explain that curious phenomenon—a charismatic Calvinist or “reformed charismatic.” There was a time when we were considered an oddity... Read more

It is interesting to note an ESV phrase for the activity of the Holy Spirit. He is decribed as rushing on people. I think you would know if someone rushed on you. This all seems rather apt for describing experience I and many of my charismatic friends share. It is also consistant with John Piper’s view of the matter. I have previously gathered some thoughts and quotes on receiving the baptism with the Holy Spirit into one place that might... Read more

21st Century Reformation quotes a paragraph from one of my previous posts: “The cessationist who concerns me is the one who does not believe that there is any sense in which we have a relational experience of God today.” and responded as follows before producing some quotes to support his position: Oh for a thousand tongues to sing my great redeemers praise. Such affection only comes from what Adrian here calls ?a relationship experience of God Here is the Major... Read more
