DISCLAIMER- please take this post and the ones that prompted it with a pinch of salt! They are intended to be humorous. First time visitors had best ignore the whole thing! Long-timers will know that despite appearances this is actually a phony blog war. Tim, pyromaniac and I love each other deeply, although only pyromaniac and I demonstrate that love by blogroll links. Tim doesnt blogroll either of us, which is no great surprise as he hardly blogrolls ANYONE and... Read more

At first glance, cinema’s and Christianity seem to have little in common. However, if you visit local cinemas in the UK you may see a trailer advertising the alpha course. The trailer asks “is there more to life than this?” and aims to encourage people to attend a course which provides an introduction to Christianity. Alpha attendance seems to be on the increase in the UK, where 1.8 million people have now attended a course. The alpha course is run... Read more

For more information about Terry Virgo, follow the link as I have collected some informataion and sermons from around the web or see my interview with Terry Virgo. HT to Life On Wings who has been listening to Terry Virgo and two things stood out: “Quoting Mahesh Chavda on the Holy Spirit; ‘I sensed the withdrawing of my dearest friend’. ‘I HATE CHURCH THAT ISN’T CHURCH’.” I have to ask myself, I have to ask you, is the Holy Spirit... Read more

HT to Beginning with Moses for a link to a great article on The Cross and Criticism – Giving and Taking Criticism as Christians: ” In light of God’s judgment and justification of the sinner in the cross of Christ, we can begin to discover how to deal with any and all criticism. By agreeing with God’s criticism of me in Christ’s cross, I can face any criticism man may lay against me. In other words, no one can criticize... Read more

NB- HUMOR ALERT, much if not all of this post should be taken with a wheelbarrow-load full of salt as it is meant to be funny- please do not take offense anyone! There is a bit of hilarious good-natured banter going on at the moment over in the comments section on Centurion’s post about my poor click-thru rate. He now claims he has still only got NINE hits from a second link on my blog- hardly and instalanche! Come on... Read more

Challies Dot Com asks why the churches of his youth rarely saw conversions- “I truly believe, after many years of reflection, that the real problem in these churches was in their attitude towards the unbeliever. The person next door was the enemy, a person to be feared for what he might do to the family, and the children in particular, and thus someone to be regarded with distrust and suspicion rather than with love………” Read more

Every now and then someone says something designed by God to cut you down to size. Centurion is questioning the real extent of my apparent influence in the blogopshere. He claims my recent link to him only generated ONE hit in his referrer log. I am outed on his blog, and he even claims to no longer be so keen on the idea of receiving a “Warnie”! Now, the thing is that in the last 24 hours I have received... Read more

THere are of course many other churches in London you could try but if you like the tone of this blog you may find you like visiting one of the family of churches I... Read more

Perhaps it is the hidden charismatic flavour, but Piper’s newest book God is the Gospel is causing some controversy online- Eternal Perspectives dislikes the book almost as much as I loved it. Righteous sinner loves the first chapter, and Coffee swirls like me feels convicted of not sufficiently loving the God of the Gospel. Meanwhile over at parableman, Wink slightly confusingly has both a generally positive review, and a post where he explains he is no longer a Piperite. Incidently... Read more

With this book Piper raises the bar. It is clearly his argument that Joy in God is the goal of the gospel itself. He really did mean it when he said the chief purpose of man is to glorify God BY enjoying him forever. Now, he makes plain that it is God himself who makes the gospel good news. Before we get into the review proper, why not Read the Introduction and Chapter 1 Listen to the Audio introduction by... Read more
