This post from colmery (HT: transforming sermons) is fantastic and needs no comment from me: Preaching, gentlemen, is an art. And before one can be a true artist, he must know how to appreciate art itself. In order to become great preachers, we must learn to embrace the beautiful, complex web of nuance that comprises the sphere in which communication lives and breathes. Everything we do is communication, every comment we make and every look we give sends a message.... Read more

Thanks to the advice of funky I have now implemented a new version of the B of G which is also available as a RSS or XML feed for use in offline newsreaders or whatever. The Blogdom can now also be read and searched at both server.com and blogdigger.com and both sites will remain active and up to date. Read more
For a frank and fascinating discussion of the methods used by Zondervans marketing guru have a look at some powerpoint slides and a script made available by Greg Stielstra. Tim might be accused of allowing his personal dislike of this book to influence his view of this marketing approach. The fact that it has been possible to put a christian book of any description on the best seller list is amazing and we need to learn from it how to... Read more
Google has once again quietly brought out an incredibly exciting tool. You can already search a vast library of paper books online at http://print.google.com/ this is the preachers, nay any researchers dream. Gaddabout highlights in a very honest post the silence of many churches today on tobacco. Sadly I believe that too many christians today have turned so-called “grace” into a licence to sin. Yes, I do believe tobacco use is sin- possibly no more serious a sin than serious overeating but a sin none the less. My need to loose weight became a spiritual issue for me earlier this year. Why do many seem to think that tobacco is not spiritual... Read more
Stronger Church:: “You are allowed to take any 5 books from your library and the rest are going away somewhere. Which books would you keep to help you in your preparation to preach and teach most effectively?” HT: Transforming sermons For me- its the ESV Bible, The Word commentary series, Kittel, and the for the last couple, two books that to be honest are on my “I love having them on my shelf but I really must read those sometime”... I have been tweaking the Blogdom of God so it may look a bit weird for a few hours until people start posting again. I am trying to weed out long posts so it becomes easier to scan for new information. I have now also included a new aggregator for UK evangelical blogs. This can be read at server.com and over at blogdigger.com. Blogdigger takes a while to update so it may be a few hours before some of the... Read more
Sean does a great job of defining and dispatching open theism in one post. To me this is a great example of what I have been calling neo-liberalism. Remaking God in our own image was never a good idea. I challenge any emergant church or other reader of my blog who holds to that view to try and defend it biblically- I do not believe that you will find it very easy. As philosphically attractive as such an idea may... Read more
