After 2000 years you would have thought that we christians would have at least agreed on what our message is by now! But perhaps our disagreements are precisely because of the glorious riches of the gospel which DOES in my view both give us a sense of purpose AND deal with our sin, both remove our guilt AND heal our wounds, produce the fear of God whilst destroying the fear of man, and many more things. So as The SHEEP’S... Read more

It seems as if Tony Blair does begin a historic third term as labour prime minister it is possible he may be saved by the French! It is not clear if Blair is relishing another challenging electoral battle to support the European constitution in a referendum, but the French may make it unecessary. In an amazing turn of events it seems Chirac may possibly lose the French referendum, thereby killing the treaty for the new constitution dead in the water. What... Read more

You can always rely on my American blogging alter-ego to say almost the same thing as me but more politely and measuredly (hey isnt HE supposed to be the Yank and me the BRIT???) So, whilst making room for those who disagrees David points out that he too is largely reading the ESV now. Meanwhile I am jealous of one blogger who just got his Reformation study bible (even though the one coming to our house is officially my wife’s-... Read more

Well, prooving that the press has too little to talk about it seems my dear friends the Virgo’s have created a stir by accepting an invitation to breakfast. Knowing them as I do, I am sure there was nothing more sinister than the desire to thank their local MP who helped them get a council house and to have a free breakfast. But suddenly according to our papers they are making political history. Maybe this story won’t seem so funny... Read more

The Tory’s were of course in favour of intervention in Iraq but have delighted in some opportunistic bashing of Blair. If they were... Read more

The Metropolitan Tabernacle pulpit and New Park St Pulpit include 3200 sermons by Spurgeon and are one of the marvels of English language publishing. Widely believed to be the greatest English-speaking preacher ever known Spurgeonexpected to win souls with every message. His preaching created a stir in Victorian England and beyond. He was every bit as well-known as any televangelist of today. These two series of sermons together are encyclopedic in their extent. I will never forget first seeing them... Read more
