I recently watched a british TV programme that suggested that the reach of global terrorism had been overstated by modern day politicians to cover for their lack of the vision thing. The programme argued that in the past people were lead by the dream of a better future. Now in this age of zero ideology they can apparently only be lead by the fear of a dreadful nightmare. Certainly the Bush-Blairite vision of spreading democracy in the middle east was... Read more

Is Islam going through its own reformation? You would think so according to what is often said in the media. I totally understand the attempts of the western establishment to assist any attempt to reivent islam in the minds of the masses as a peaceful secular religion. If we cannot win the hearts and minds of the millions of muslims who live among us, then the ‘war on terror’ will risk an escalation into full-scale civil war throughout much of... Read more

Like most British people there are definitely two sides to my perception of Americans. Firstly, I have to confess to a certain degree of admiration, almost envy. Everything about the US is so much bigger and more extreme than the UK. You are the world super power we Brits conquered other nations to be without having colonies. But on the other side I sometimes feel I don’t understand you, and that can lead to almost frustration. When we don’t understand,... Read more

I couldnt get very far without referring to my friend Jollyblogger. He has a typically great post on the relative lack of an evangelistic impact for the Passion. I am not sure I share his pessimism about preaching crusades however. People are saved by them. I do agree however that it is in fact a regular exposure to the truth within the context of relationships that make a difference to people. Faith comes by hearing preaching both the kind that... Read more

A blog is like a friend. Neglect it for a while, and you feel embarrassed mildly on your return. In my case the embarrassment is increased by a sense of having terribly failed the Christian community by breaking the unbroken chain of Christian Carnivals. I still cant get the carnival up as now the hundreds of emails I havent read have crashed my email program! Hopefully this string of computer issues is now almost over. I still dont have ASDL... Read more

Or so the UK’s independent newspaper has it today. A few weeks ago I was expressing boredom with the US election, and I am sure glad that it is now almost over (unless the lawyers have their way!). It seems somehow appropriate that I have been on an enforced blog haitus at this time- as some of my favorite blogs were doing my head in! This is another hastily borrowed PC so once again, I dont know when my next... Read more

I always promised myself I would not apologise for not posting. I still dont apologise for not posting- this is after all a hobby, and as yet I havent even got a “tip jar” for my loyal readers to help support the costs of running this blog- so I dont owe anyone a post. At the end of the day this blog still exists primarily for me to organise my thoughts. Due to a very busy time at work (the... Read more

I am hosting the Christian Carnival this week, it will probably be late not least because midnight your time is 5AM mine. So last minute entries are welcome right up until you see the post here. Hope you will all forgive me if I am late as this has come on a ridiculously busy period for me. Prayers for me this week would be gratefully received as I am preaching at the end of what will be my busiest week... Read more

Bizzarrely, as my boredom with the US election continues to grow, my interest in the US show “The West Wing” has also increased. Tell me someone who knows about these things, does the West Wing in any way reflect the reallity of the US political system? Read more

OK its time to say it: I am bored of the US presidential election now. It just seems to go on and on- not like our brief and ‘civilised’ campaigns at all! I know depending on which side of the fence I am on I should be worried that one of the guys will destroy the planet by not cutting down on the pollution that the USA spews out on the world , or that the other guy will destroy... Read more
