Teen Girls Unicorn Costume. It’s just a slutty girl with a horn on her head.
Teen Girls Hello Kitty? I think we’ve strayed a little bit from the cartoon.
Teen Girls Sassy Sailor? What parent would by their daughter a costume with that label?
Teen Girls Glee Cheerleader? Oh, yeah… that’s a role model I want my daughter emulating.
This is a clear case of what the American Psychological Association (APA) calls “sexualization.” It’s when girls value “sexy” as more important than other characteristics.
