Druid in the City: A Spell To Get Rid Of The Crap

Druid in the City: A Spell To Get Rid Of The Crap December 30, 2020

The New Year approaches, but this is a weird one. We’re done with 2020, but what will 2021 look like? Will the vaccine help? When will we get our vaccinations; when will we all be able to gather at festivals and celebrations again? When will we get our lives back?

Here in Quebec province, we are under very harsh restrictions, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to move forward and put the bad parts of 2020 behind me while setting a positive mindset for 2021. Then the answer came to me … Flush it!

There are two parts to this working – one where we get rid of the old crap from 2020 and bring in joy and abundance for 2021. You’ll need a few squares of toilet paper, a sharpie or other marker, a white candle, and something to inscribe the candle (a pin or a mechanical pencil works well). A tealight or chime candle is excellent for this spell.

Get Rid of the Crap

One of my favorite ways to get rid of emotions or other crap that hangs around is to flush it down the toilet. To do this work, you need to be careful about what you want to get rid of. Get rid of the emotions, the anxiety, the frustration around the pandemic; get rid of the fear of crowded places or other limiting fears. I suggest that you keep the feelings of grief – these are good and healthy feelings that we need to work through. Keep the lessons and the shadow work that may have happened.

If it makes sense for you, light a candle, burn some incense, or create your sacred space however you want. If that’s not your style, don’t. Make sure to include your bathroom if you cast a circle or define sacred space.

Now, using a marker or sharpie and some toilet paper, write out short phrases that define the things you want to get rid of. You can write one thing per square of toilet paper or cram them all onto one square – do what feels right.

Head to your bathroom and stand over the toilet (lid up). Bring your white candle and inscribing tool with you – and something to light the candle with.

Take each square and read the phrase on it. Let yourself feel all the feels. Now, take a deep breath, and breathe all the pain, and sorrow, and frustration, and emotion into that square. You may need to do this a few times. Once you feel that the energy is in the square, drop it into the toilet and flush. Watch the water and listen to the sound of all that emotion washing away from you. Know that this emotion is being returned to the sea.

If you have multiple squares of toilet paper, repeat the process of getting rid of each square and flushing that emotion away.

Bring in Joy and Abundance

Now that you have gotten rid of the crap, it’s time to bring in the good stuff.

Take your inscribing tool and mark your candle with the runes of wujo and fehu (see image below) or symbols that mean joy and abundance to you. If you’re using a tealight or container candle, inscribe the top of the candle. If you’re using a tall candle, inscribe the symbols along the side.

Spend a few moments thinking about the things that you want to bring into your life. What brings you joy? What does abundance mean to you? Feel the feels and remember what it feels like to be in a space where you enjoy life and feel like you’re safe and doing good. Breathe that wonderful emotion into the candle. I recommend breathing the emotion into the candle with three breaths.

Light the candle and let the light of the candle shine in your heart, and light the way forward.

Keep the candle somewhere that you can keep an eye on it and let it burn out. If you need to leave the candle alone, snuff it out until you’re back. When you come back, feel the emotion again and breathe it into the candle, and light it again.

May the blessings of the gods and spirits go with you into the new year.
