The Fore-Cast: May 2023

The Fore-Cast: May 2023 May 2, 2023

The Fore-Cast is a monthly divination offering a guiding message for the month upon which those who read the column may meditate or reflect.

If you are interested in the philosophy and step-by-step breakdown of how this divination is done, one is provided in the inaugural Fore-Cast posted in March 2023.

The Fore-Cast: May 2023

The hand arrayed before us, pictured above, is fitting for the day of Beltane on which it was cast. It speaks of new beginnings, of blossoming, of song and of sunlight.

Here we see a metaphorical seed planted, an origin point for the runic arc that falls upon the blank rune. This indicates an ineffable and inexorable destined moment, a fate planted in secret places of power. The arc progresses to Jera, the rune of reaping, the harvest rune that speaks of cycles of time, rebirth, and fruition. This indicates the blossoming and attainment of the fruits of the fated seed with which the arc began. Finally, our arc ends upon Dagaz, the rune of day, of revelation, and of hope. Our end result is a new dawn, a hopeful sunrise on a bright tomorrow.

This runic arc is acted upon by the energies of the eleventh, first, and thirteenth Eidolons, all in active position and all rising.

In the mists of the past I see a secret and verdurous power, taking an emerald seed from its heart and planting it in the fertile grounds of time. I see this seed growing beneath the concrete, spreading like a vast mycelium network despite forces that would suppress it with their industrial sterility. Yet, the roots are nourished by the many hearts that call to them. Finally, I see great trees rising from these roots to drink in the sun, suddenly springing up and shattering the dull asphalt that seeks to entomb them. In their boughs play happy children, and in the dappled light beneath their leaves all generations dance and laugh.

I see a great upwelling, a call to closeness with the Earth, a rebirth of old traditions emerging from the cairns and dolmens in which they sought shelter. I see joy and music ringing out in a time of renewal, while mosses blanket the rusted husks of outmoded and unfeeling philosophies.

This reading speaks to us of striving for a way of life in harmony with nature and its keepers. It speaks of the fruition of forces set in motion while occluded from human view, a revolution of the great wheel of ages, and a time of significant growth.

Our takeaway from this is a reminder to look up from the trappings of mortal artifice and the things society tells us are important. We are reminded that we are part of a great cycle in which human empires, currencies, philosophies, and systems come and go in the blink of an eye. We are reminded that this world belonged to the mountains and rivers long before it belonged to us, and it will continue to be so long after we are gone. As a species, we are but one brief moment in a vast continuity of geological time, and with this perspective we can evaluate how we might best use this precious moment to live and love more fully and openly.
