As I was meditating the other morning on Memorial Day’s meaning I kept hearing the FREE. I suppose it’s true – because of the sacrifices of others I am free. So what exactly is free to you?
I love the feeling of my toes in the water and breathing in the sea air. Or sitting in a whitewashed chair with a cold lemonade in the countryside. Or simply wearing my most comfortable jeans, white cotton oversized t-shirt, no makeup and reading a good book. Or lunch with a best friend. Or hugging my husband first thing in the morning. Or laughing with my kids as we blow bubbles. The list is endless. I feel free when I do that. Sometimes just finding some personal moments in your life which offers you the taste of freedom can help inspire you.
As we took a drive, I saw many at their family member’s gravestones, grieving. A personal moment, but a reminder for me that grief can take away that feeling of feeling free. Yet their souls, most resting and at peace, know exactly what free is.
So if you’re feeling less than free in whatever it is in your life maybe it’s time to shrug off your chains, remove your blindfold and walk into the light of your own freedom. You had helpers along the way, known and unknown, who handed you the keys to that freedom.
On this Memorial Day weekend I would also like to thank my son-in-law Caleb for serving in the Marines. I’m always so in awe at the strength my daughter has in supporting him through the ups and downs that military life offers. I’m thankful for my dad who served in the Army. And I put out a huge thank you to all of your loved ones who serve, have served, and many of who’ve lost their lives.
Believe,
