May: The Distractions of Islamophobia

A variety of issues and topics dominated our coverage in May, but perhaps the most pertinent was this article by columnist Charles M. Turner in which he looked at how the Republican primaries kept whipping up the topic of Islamophobia at the cost of important internal debates our communities used to have: “… those internal debates became more tabled as Trump called for a “complete and total ban” of Muslims entering the U.S. and eventually the Nazi-style identification of Muslim minorities. Of course, these developments had to be addressed, and the result do seem positive.”
