So many times our generation [millennials], or even those who no longer adhere to the “tradition,” or what we know as “orthodoxy” are casted out and labeled as irreligious. Though I don’t think we are irreligious, so much as we’re counter cultural. I think Erwin McManus quotes perfectly captures this, in challenging us as the Church, to focus on LOVE not law.
In David Kinnaman’s (president of Barna Group) book titled “You Lost Me,” he not only acknowledges that young Christian’s are leaving the church in droves, but that they are growing older and, unlike the past, not coming back. Could the reason be what Erwin McManus is stating above? Is it that we’ve been driven by this “moralistic therapeutic deism” that’s all about the rules, laws, and what we can’t do, disguised as Christianity?
What’re your thoughts? Do you agree with Erwin’s quotes?
