The Uncomfortable Facts: What We Do and Don’t Know…
We must as Christians also be open to critical thought. There’s a humility I’ve found in many Christian intellectuals who believe in the resurrection but simultaneously find a rationale within from historians, textual critics, and scientists alike that would otherwise show us wrong.
Trying to make sense of Jesus defying all odds de-mystifies the Gospel.
Perhaps the problem is found in how we look at these arguments that derail the faith of otherwise well-intentioned but, unequipped Christians…
But, we don’t know the dates in which the gospels were written, we only have a rough idea and, neither do we know who wrote these gospels…
The gospels don’t even agree on the day in which Christ died (For instance Mark 14:12-16 compared to John 19:14, Jesus could not have died on both days; which day is it?).
We do know that these gospels have been continuously redacted and edited over the course of history; we do know that there are more variances and discrepancies in the NT than there are words. And, sure, let’s say there were 500 eye-witnesses to Christ Jesus post-crucifixion, but I’m sure I find over a thousand eye-witnesses still living today that claim to have seen Bigfoot or Nessie, the infamous Loch Ness monster.
Again, our defense mechanisms are sending our minds into a dissonant state in order to cope with facts that contradict all that we’ve built our lives upon…
If you can, consider this before dissonancing yourself from these facts…
