Fear does not create lasting change…
And, if you don’t believe me just ask the dying Evangelical church; the foundation of their marketing, attendance, and belief set was driven by fear. While it worked temporarily, it also gives reason as to why the Evangelical Church will be remembered as nothing but a flash in the pan.
You see, people didn’t flock to Jesus because they were afraid of going to hell; large crowds gathered around him because he promised to bring them life.
But the tactics are everywhere. Students are doing drills in their high schools… the AP media is tweeting our images of “Christians” praying with AR-15’s in hand. Actual students and images of anguished parents broadcasted, everywhere.
The thief he comes to kill, steal, and destroy but, Jesus says I’ve come to bring you life and life to it’s full
All in all, what I’m saying is that people don’t change unless they, err, we want to change. You can temporarily scare us into doing something (e.g. voting, attending a church service, etc.) but, you can’t create lasting change by driving fear (e.g. legislating law enforcing ________).
If you want to change lives you need to start with love. Love is not fueled by fear, shame or guilt. True love is without condition, it lends freedom to be; instead of forcing someone to be who you think they should be.
