Partial Justice: Woman Locks Officer in Basement

Partial Justice: Woman Locks Officer in Basement 2024-03-01T10:03:43-05:00

[Woman Locks Officer In Basement: You might have seen this pop up on Reddit the other day. This is actually an older news story from what I’ve gathered the incident took place in July of 2009 and WBALTV reported on it in April of 2012.]

According to WBALTV then 87 year old Venus Green was “roughed up and injured by police, [and] will receive $95,000 as part of a settlement with Baltimore City.”

This took place shortly after Venus Green’s grandson was shot at a local convenient store and upon arrival the police refused help to the wounded boy but instead decided to “interrogate” him. In this 2012 interview Venus says that, “Police kept questioning him. They wouldn’t let the ambulance attendant treat him,” Green said. “So, I got up and said, ‘Sir, would you please let the attendants treat him? He’s in pain,'” Green said.

[Let that sink in for a second… a cop would not let medics attend to a boy who had just been shot.]

It gets worse.

Without a warrant, and seemingly without probable cause, he unlawfully and forcefully intruded Green’s home. Green, who is currently 90, but was 87 at the time was then dragged, thrown, and handcuffed by a male officer.

Green reports that the officer then “…just started calling me the ‘b’ name. He ridiculed me.”

The good news is this: After injuring Venus the officer made the mistake of heading down into the basement in which Venus locked him in. [It’s okay to applaud alone at your computer].

She has since then, settled out side of court receiving a $95,000 settlement with Baltimore City. Apparently this isn’t the first time the police department has had to settle as WBALTV reports, “In the past two fiscal years, the city has paid out $16.8 million in claims against the Police Department.”

My questions are this:

  1. Is the police officer still employed? If so, why?
  2. Has the police officer been charged with trespassing let alone assault and battery of an 87 year old lady, if not why not?
  3. How is Green’s grandson doing physically? My biggest concern is that the police officers lack of concern for his life did not end up costing this child’s life.
  4. How much more of this shit do we as American’s have to sit back and watch?

This is only a partial justice, as far as I know, unless this officer since then has been stripped of his gun and badge. I understand that there are “unions” in place to protect police officers in such situations, but when these unions lend an arrogance to officers making them believe that they not only uphold the law but are some how above the law, is that not where we as people/citizens draw the line?

If you’re still confused why I’m talking about a two year old case that has been settled already, my point is not this case, my point is that things like this case are becoming far too common.

Answer this: Why is it that Michael Brown is a supposed “delinquent criminal” because he pushed someone in a convenient store, yet a police officer can assault an 87 year old American woman, trespass onto her property, all the while allowing her loved one to bleed out by refusing him medical assistance… and yet still be referred to as an “upholder of the law”?

Police that break the law, in uniform or not, are criminals. Venus was attacked by the very men that we pay to protect.

Please hear this, I’m not against the police. I’m against injustice. I’ve had nothing but good interactions with police, but I’m not fooled into believing that quite possibly if I was of a darker skin complexion this would not always have been the case for me.

There are too many of us who are good, benevolent, caring people that are sick and tired of this continuing to allow this to continue.

[Would love any comments or input you have in regards to what we can do to stop shit like this (also, please do not say “pray more”)]
