We all have a story and a struggle, and each of us will experience a life full of highs and lows…twists and turns.  Life as we know it can be so amazingly grand, and then it can suddenly take a tragic detour that turns everything upside down leaving us scared, confused, and desperate for hope.  Sometimes, I can’t help but ask God why he allows so many tragedies to occur, but the longer I live, the more I see that... Read more

I love that old John Mayer song “Say What You Need to Say”.  It’s so simple, yet true.  Why is it that we often hold back from really saying all the things we need to say until something bad happens or we think we may never see the person again? This holds true in many marriages. (more…) Read more

This week, I had lunch with several of my girlfriends.  We laughed, shed some tears, and simply shared what was on our hearts with each other (using as many words as possible of course).  I know, I know…seems a little too dramatic and stereotypical…women laughing and crying together…yada, yada, yada.  Even so, I can’t even describe to you how good it was for my soul. I really needed that time with my girlfriends. (more…) Read more

Let’s face it.  We are all visual creatures, and nudity draws us in like flies to a bright light.  This really isn’t a bad thing.  In fact, God made human beings this way on purpose.  He made us sexual so that we can experience intimate pleasure with our spouse and possibly have children one day.  We are supposed to appreciate the naked body.  We are wired to desire sex.  It isn’t gross; it’s beautiful.  Unfortunately our culture often represents it... Read more

When my husband, Dave, and I started dating, I would frequently ask him what he was thinking about whenever we had a pause in our conversation. (more…) Read more

It’s that time of year again…New Years resolutions.  Every year, my husband, Dave, and I sit down and talk about how we can make the upcoming year our best yet.  My resolutions often include getting in better shape, reading more books, reading my Bible more, volunteering in a new capacity, starting a new hobby, raising my voice less to my kiddos, etc.  I think so many of us tend to focus on things like these, but we often forget to... Read more

The desire for acceptance is one that starts very early.  We often peg this as a rather “junior high” quest, but it often follows us into adulthood.  I have always felt a bit different, and as I grow older, I become more and more thankful for my weirdness. This feeling of thankfulness in being different has been a pretty painful journey with rivers of tears shed over not fitting in and countless times of wishing I was somebody else. (more…) Read more

Photo: Shutterstock I LOVE Christmas.  Yes, I am one of “those people” who decorate before Thanksgiving.  I am giddy putting up all the decorations while watching all the sweet, sometimes cheesy, Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel.  The “Christmas in July” marathon that happens on a few channels during the summer doesn’t seem weird to me at all.  I love the sparkle of the white Christmas lights at night, and I love watching, yes watching, that music television channel... Read more

Sand paper. It is…well, brown and abrasive; not too appealing. I have used it on multiple occasions to complete home improvement projects. I’ve even become well-acquainted with the different types of “grit” they come in, depending on how coarse or fine I needed the sandpaper to be. Sandpaper was originally called “glass paper” because it actually contained small pieces of glass in it. I can’t imagine what that might have felt like on skin! I do know a thing or... Read more

We’ve all seen them or heard them.  You know…those moms who are super-stressed out and talking to their kids with a crazy kind of intensity, dragon-like nostrils (minus the smoke), and eyes that could slice through you like a knife? Yeah, well, I joined those ranks tonight. Okay, I might have been semi-rushing for that sorority in the past; but tonight, Friend, I pledged to join it all the way. I am not proud of this at all…just keepin’ it... Read more
