Dismantling the False Core Pattern

Dismantling the False Core Pattern

In my last post I spoke about the creation of a persona or False Self Pattern that we present to the world as if it were a true picture of whom we are. This pattern creates a contraction that keeps us from revealing our irreducibly unique expression of the Love Intelligence that is the initiating energy of all that is.

In the Unique Self Coaching Process, dismantling the False Self Pattern is the first step we take towards Unique Self emergence. Over the years we develop ways of thinking, feeling, posturing and acting that hide, deny, compensate or verify a false core belief that we have taken on early in our development to make up for our loss of connection with the Ground of Being. To uncover these False Core Beliefs, we need to access the motivation, the energy and drive around them. For example if your False Core Belief is “I am not safe,” you may hide by pretending you are fearless, deny by not letting yourself admit fear at all, compensate by creating safety or verify by taking unnecessary risks that result in problems, hence validating that you are not safe.

One of the tools we use to discover this belief is the Enneagram, a system of nine distinct personality styles (or enneatypes) that lead to nine different paradigms or perspectives on life. What we find compelling in this model is that each of the nine types is marked by a particular pattern of thinking and feeling, a “cognitive-emotional habit” that is based on the motives behind a person’s priorities and preferences rather than on behavior itself. This habit deeply influences your original False Core Belief and therefore the feelings, thoughts and  particular ways you hold your body and these, taken all together result in your False Self Pattern.

Hence understanding one’s Enneatype and uncovering the False Core Belief that is related to you type can help you break free from unhealthy coping strategies and begin to see life from a larger perspective. Without this clarity, progress towards True Self and Unique Self realization is stymied, as we remain identified to our Separate Self where the constructs of our False Self Pattern drive our motives and priorities, emotions and moods largely without our conscious awareness. This is what we learn and practice in the first step of the Unique Self Coaching Process and we’ll be exploring this in depth during online Unique Self Coaching course: Loosening the Grip Of Your False Core Pattern which begins February 28. This six-session course will meet every other week so you’ll have time to engage fully in each practice.

In my next posts, I’ll preview the beliefs of each Enneatype with practices to help you become more aware of them.
