O Holy

O Holy

For Lent, go read Elizabeth Duffy’s Litany of Days.

O holy dishes in the sink and laundry in piles on the couch
O holy kneeling to run the vacuum under the bed
O holy wondering if there’s something more I should do
O holy sitting in the chair not reading as intended
O holy word affirming my existence
O holy stabs into that ether with my own tired voice
O holy dissipation in longing for something to happen
O holy drinking three cups of coffee, the third with cream
O holy playing of O holies on piano
O holy lying with baby, willing her to sleep
O holy plate of saltines and spoonful of peanut butter
O holy spean full of pooh-nut butter that makes the baby laugh
O holy houseplants that I never water
O holy resolutions kept and those I’ve forgotten
O holy waiting which is antidote to most problems
O holy three o’ clock hour of spiritual destitution
O holy absence more calculable than fulfillment

I love everything Elizabeth Duffy writes, but this one especially. It’s perfect for today.
