What Is God’s Will For Me?

Great question, right? Here’s some good news. You can stop losing sleep trying to figure out God’s will for your life. The answer to this seemingly profound question can be found right in the pages of the Bible. Best of all, it can be broken down into 3 easy steps!

Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Even though it’s pretty straightforward, let’s look at the steps in greater detail.

1. Rejoice Always

Contrary to what the world tells you, joy is a conscious decision. It is not a response to external circumstances. Authentic joy flows from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. You can choose to be joyful even when your world is falling apart. You don’t have to feel it. Your joy is based on your relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Smile and choose to rejoice. Quite often, the feelings will follow.

2. Pray Constantly

This one seems impossible, unless you understand an important fact. Everything we do can be offered to God as prayer. This includes taking care of your kids, cleaning the bathroom, reading the Bible, sitting in traffic or working at the office. Here’s how to make it happen. When you wake up in the morning, offer all of your thoughts and actions for the upcoming day to the Lord. Then, make it a point to speak to him a few times during the day. If you do that, you will be praying constantly!

3. Give Thanks In All Circumstances

Although it’s easy to understand, this step is tough to put into practice. Most of us don’t have a problem thanking God for beautiful weather, recovery from illness or an unexpected financial blessing. On the other hand, it’s not that easy to be thankful when something unpleasant happens to us. Just like rejoicing always, however, you can choose to do it. Don’t be led by your feelings. Force yourself to thank God for everything, even if you don’t feel like it. Doing so will help you to understand that everything that happens in your life is an expression of his unconditional love for you. I know it’s a hard sell, but trust me on this one. Giving thanks in all circumstances will change your life. Don’t question it, just do it!

Pretty amazing, isn’t it? God’s will is that you rejoice, pray constantly and give thanks in all circumstances. If you make it a point to do these three things every day, you will be doing what God wants you to do.

Don’t you love it when God keeps things simple?
