The Exchange— the Latest Grisham Thriller September 2, 2024

If you are old enough to remember a novel called The Firm, which lets you millenials out, since it showed up in 1991, only the second lawyer thriller by John Grisham (a Time to Kill) being the first, then this provides a long over due sequel. But it stands on its own well too, as the continuing saga of Mitch and Abby McDeere, from good ole Kentucky.  Grisham must have some kind of record for having more than 20 novels in a row being No. 1 on the NY Times Bestseller list, and every one of them being a real page turner.  Be prepared to turn 334 pages or so in this one, which emerged October 2023.   Here’s Amazon’s plot summary:

“What became of Mitch and Abby McDeere after they exposed the crimes of Memphis law firm Bendini, Lambert & Locke and fled the country? The answer is in The Exchange, the riveting sequel to The Firm, the blockbuster thriller that launched the career of America’s favorite storyteller. It is now fifteen years later, and Mitch and Abby are living in Manhattan, where Mitch is a partner at the largest law firm in the world. When a mentor in Rome asks him for a favor that will take him far from home, Mitch finds himself at the center of a sinister plot that has worldwide implications—and once again endangers his colleagues, friends, and family. Mitch has become a master at staying one step ahead of his adversaries, but this time there’s nowhere to hide.”
The whole plot revolves around a kidnapping of an Italian woman who works for a huge American law firm, and the negotiations required to set her free.   You spend time in London, Rome, Morocco,  and the Grand Caymans.  Mitch, as it turns out, has become something of a jet setter, involved in international law, whether he likes it or not.  But when his wife gets dragged into the frey, during the hostage negotiations, the situation becomes tense. And will we ever find out what super sophisticated terrorists operating in Libya during the reign of terror of Gaddafi could have pulled off a crime like this and then. demanded 100 million dollars, from the law firm for which Mitch works?  Well you will have to read this page turner to find out, and you might even learn what it’s like to live on an island off the coast of Maine?  Bonus!
