If you are old enough to remember a novel called The Firm, which lets you millenials out, since it showed up in 1991, only the second lawyer thriller by John Grisham (a Time to Kill) being the first, then this provides a long over due sequel. But it stands on its own well too, as the continuing saga of Mitch and Abby McDeere, from good ole Kentucky. Grisham must have some kind of record for having more than 20 novels in a row being No. 1 on the NY Times Bestseller list, and every one of them being a real page turner. Be prepared to turn 334 pages or so in this one, which emerged October 2023. Here’s Amazon’s plot summary:
The whole plot revolves around a kidnapping of an Italian woman who works for a huge American law firm, and the negotiations required to set her free. You spend time in London, Rome, Morocco, and the Grand Caymans. Mitch, as it turns out, has become something of a jet setter, involved in international law, whether he likes it or not. But when his wife gets dragged into the frey, during the hostage negotiations, the situation becomes tense. And will we ever find out what super sophisticated terrorists operating in Libya during the reign of terror of Gaddafi could have pulled off a crime like this and then. demanded 100 million dollars, from the law firm for which Mitch works?
