This morning I am still recovering from some shocking news I received. This past week a friend of mine from Seminary took her own life. She was a very kind women and one who loved Jesus deeply. She had felt the call to give her life in service of serving Jesus through serving others. She was a voice for justice and a preacher of the Gospel. She was a friend, and I feel the loss sharply today. Like myself, she... Read more

After hearing about rumors that Francis is sneaking out in the night to minister to the poor of Rome in disguise  Steven Colbert formulated an interesting theory. Francis is actually… Bat-Pope Colbert makes three great points… Both have big houses, x-mobiles, and talk to Morgan Freeman (sort of) Yeah I can see it too, but Colbert is late to the game We’ve known about superhero popes for a long time. Remember this Catholic Meme from a couple years ago? —>... Read more

On December 10th, human rights day, the Pope is sparking off what’s being called, “a global wave of prayer” that will spread across the world starting noon in Australia and sweeping across the world. This will be the kickoff of a global campaign to end hunger by 2025. Last week we talked about “5 Guys from Early Christian History You Should Get to Know.” If early church fathers are off the radar for many Christians today, even more so are the early church mothers. The Church would be greatly enriched is this omission was remedied, after all most scholars today believe that the early church was filled with women who embraced the faith after encountering the message that they were of equal value and dignity (which was radical at the time and in many ways... Read more

Recently I have been fasting and praying for comprehensive humane immigration reform. As a Catholic I stand with my Bishops on this, as a Christian I affirm the scriptures clear and repeated call for the care of the sojourner and stranger in the land, as a human being I am disgusted by the inhumane and despicable policies that allow for a scandalous loss of life and dignity of that my brothers and sisters are facing every day. This needs to... Read more

There is nothing more iconic about the sci-fi series “Doctor Who” than the blue police phone-box known as the TARDIS. This contraption has been with the time traveling protagonist of the show, self-proclaimed as “The Doctor” for the last 50 years and continues to be the central element of continuity in the show as it moves from doctor to doctor. I was laying in bed last night thinking about how much I loved Doctor Who and trying to pray when suddenly it... Read more

This weekend Pope Francis made history. To commemorate the end of the year of faith he brought out the bones of Saint Peter and displayed them for the first time. By all accounts it was a powerful experience. I had felt a little disappointed that I couldn’t fly off to Rome to be part of the festivities, but then a little moment of grace came my way. Here in Washington D.C. the national shrine also has relics of Saint Peter.... Read more
