The Washington Post has a fascinating article:
The U.S. fertility rate has plummeted to the lowest point on record, according to new federal data. The first quarter of 2016 brought 59.8 babies for every 1,000 women, ages 15 to 44. That’s nearly half the rate at the peak of the baby boom in the late 1950s.
The numbers show an unmistakable trend: Women in the U.S. who choose to reproduce keep delaying motherhood. Each generation has waited a little longer than the last. Four decades ago, an American woman typically delivered her first baby at age 21. By 2000, she was 24.9. Today, she is 26.3.
I am so torn on whether this is good or bad.. Being a parent is not easy – being able to provide the best upbringing for your children should be the most important job of your life. Maybe it is smart women are holding off – or having less kids. But could it possibly be tied to how “norm” abortions on demand are becoming? Could it really be the financial piece or it?
(** SPOILER ** Did you know that half of birth’s in the United States are paid for by Medicaid? Read this from 2010 or this from 2015.)
Could the reasoning be because of how selfish my generation can be?
How into our selves we kind of all are?
I’d like to tell myself, and think, the reasoning is because women are focusing on education, that they are focusing on building careers, or businesses. That they are waiting to be secure first – I would like to think that reasoning behind this is strictly because women want to better the lives of their families, and NOT because of the accessibility or abortion.
