Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and this one drove a BMW!

Meet Ako Rahman, a Kurdish fighter who has been up close and personal in the fight against ISIS. In the recent surge to retake the city of Mosul, Rahman volunteered to do something most wouldn’t: drive straight into the middle of battle to rescue the injured from ISIS snipers.

Luckily he had a $9,000 bulletproof BMW and with it, he saved 70 people who would’ve otherwise been killed by the Islamic terrorists. And like any good hero, Rahman wished he could’ve saved more:

“My aim was to prevent any captives, wounded or martyrs falling into ISIS’ hands. What really made me sad… many of the wounded, we reached them too late and they bled to death.

“The ISIS bullets were coming in my direction. I saw death with my own eyes. Yet, I did not stop what I was doing. I could not leave the wounded in limbo. The only thing I cared about was getting the wounded into my car and driving them to the hospital.”

His car was riddled with 50 to 60 bullet holes all over including the windshield, as PJ Media reported.

Rahman was honored by the governor of Kirkuk for his heroic actions. “The bravery and the sacrifices of our citizens have foiled the dirty plans by ISIS terrorist gangs,” a release from Najmaldin Karim’s office stated. “We and on behalf of people of Kirkuk thank them [Peshmerga], and we value their sacrifices.”

The governor also offered Rahman a cash reward of 500,000 Iraqi dinars, which equals just over $420 American. But the hero refused and considered the prize an insult:

“What I have done falls under my duty as a Peshmerga fighter. Kirkuk is worth our sacrifices.”

While the Peshmerga resistance claimed the lives of 70 ISIS terrorists, they suffered much more, losing 90 civilians and fighters. But thanks to Rahman’s courage and his bulletproof BMW, more didn’t have to die.

And what BMW did in response was nothing short of amazing. The company offered the Kurdish fighter a brand-new car. They also wanted to take his bullet-riddled car and put it in the company museum, but Rahman said he is donating it to a local museum to serve as a symbol of bravery for other Kurdish fighters.
