1. The veiled first shot during her Republican response to President Obama’s final State of the Union address
Though she didn’t mention Trump by name, it was pretty clear that Haley, a vocal Marco Rubio supporter and then Ted Cruz during the primaries, was throwing plenty of shade his way from the start when she said:
“Today, we live in a time of threats like few others in recent memory. During anxious times, it can be tempting to follow the siren call of the angriest voices.”
Trump’s call for strict immigration reform and the resulting backlash from the media that assumed he meant deporting everyone led her to say:
“We must resist that temptation. No one who is willing to work hard, abide by our laws, and love our traditions should ever feel unwelcome in this country.”
