So this happened. S.E. Hinton, author of the 1967 classic “The Outsiders,” was attacked on Twitter for being homophobic.
What did she do? Was she involved in some sort of hateful violence or did she use a slur? Nope. The readers were angry because she — a heterosexual writer — created heterosexual characters.
The author wasn’t having it:
#ThingsIWontApologizeFor I am a heterosexual writer writing about heterosexual characters. Being attacked for being heterosexual.

Sheesh.
After saying she loves gay people, she also said this:
How am I supposed to know what a gay character goes through? Not writing about the black experience either. I can’t know that! https://t.co/BkMQvDLG4f

How stupid is all of this getting?
I love it that Hinton pushed back on this nonsense.
Just let people be what they are! (Even if they are straight or white!)
