Confession.
I don’t love politics. In fact, I hate to really think about all the fighting and the insults that go back and forth every day over issues. Politics is not the most important thing on people’s minds — how to make ends meet, when to pick up the kids’ from practice, and what to make for dinner are usually higher on the list of priorities than something like how to figure out the tax system.
I’m so happy that Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton, and am ready to move forward without all national fighting that was so common last year. I’m ready for a happier, kinder 2017. That’s why I’m starting off the New Year with the 30 Day Kindness Challenge — and I’d love to do it with all of you as well!
Here’s how it works.
Pick one or more people as a target for kindness (it can be anyone). I’m picking my husband Dakota —
He really does do it all. Like, yesterday, he surprised me at my new job – I didn’t even think he knew where the Doctor’s office was — and to top it off, he brought me flowers! When I got home last night after work, I found a little love note in the door handle! He’s so much better at stuff like that for me and he deserves the world.
The 30 Day Kindness Challenge has been proven to improve relationships just by doing these three things every day for a month:
1. POSITIVITY: Say nothing negative/negatively about your person – either to them or about them to someone else.
2. PRAISE: Every day, find one positive thing that you can sincerely praise or affirm about your person and tell them, and tell someone else.
3. KINDNESS: Every day, do a small act of kindness or generosity for them.
Sounds easy, right?
Won’t you join me in making 2017 a kinder year? I’m starting on January 16th, which means my challenge will end on Valentine’s Day. For the next few days, I’m asking my readers and friends to sign up with me, then I’ll blog about how my 30 Day Kindness Challenge is going.
If you sign up, you’ll get one email every day with ideas on how to be kind on that day. I’d love to hear from all of you on your progress! Sign up here — you can pick the date YOU want to start — if you are also ready for some kindness.
