There has to be nothing scarier than being woken up in the middle of the night to discover your home has been invaded by a criminal. This is why the Second Amendment is so important. We have to have the chance to defend ourselves. One man in Alabama did, and though he’s sad he had to kill someone, he knows they won’t be threatening to kill anybody else.
Here’s the story from Trey Sanchez at TruthRevolt:
John Croft, 79, has lived in Center Point, Alabama, for 21 peaceful years. That is until last year when the break-ins started. According to WBRC 6 News, Croft’s home has been broken into 13 times since last summer.
“I’ve been a prisoner in my house,” Croft said.
On Wednesday at 1:15 a.m., it happened again. But this time, Mr. Croft was ready:
“When I heard the noise, that’s when they opened the window from the basement coming to the level where the bedrooms are,” he recalled.
Jefferson County deputies say there were two men inside. Another, driving the getaway car, waited outside.
“I have three bedrooms. I think they checked the other two bedrooms out and then he came over there and said, ‘Don’t move!’ He heard the bed squeaking. I was getting my gun. He said, ‘Don’t move’ and he used that ‘N’ word and I shot,” Croft recounted later Wednesday.
“I hate that boy dead, but I don’t hate I shot him.”
Croft says he didn’t know it at the time, but the suspect had shot him too, hitting him in the ankle.
But even after his frightening ordeal, Croft felt compassion for the mother who had to lose a son:
“I just hate to meet this mother because this was a teenager. And there’s nothing as precious to a mother as a son. And you know what’s been happening to black boys today. For another black man to shoot one, that just doesn’t look good. But like I say, I had no choice.”
Police said Mr. Croft was well within his rights to pull the trigger and won’t be charged with a crime.
