As I wrote yesterday, my mother Sarah Palin endorsed Senate candidate Roy Moore in Alabama against establishment candidate Luther Strange.  Today, Moore proved why my mother would love him. He was on a campaign stage and did the most “Alabama” thing I’ve ever seen — he pulled out a pistol right there in front of everyone.

The context was this.  He was talking about how his opponent took out ads saying that Moore didn’t believe in the Second Amendment, which was an untrue claim.  However, he said he didn’t have enough money to hit back at the lies.

“I believe in the Second Amendment,” he said, pulling out his gun.   In some states — blue ones, namely — a candidate pulling out a gun might be cause for alarm.  However, the crowd in Alabama went nuts.  Watch the video:

People cheered.  That’s because they know that people who have a permit to carry weapons are safer than any other demographic.  Did you know that as a population, carry permit owners commit fewer crimes than police officers?

Yep.

Yesterday, my mother explained why she supported him.  “This is what we need, the happy warriors who are in it for the right reason. They’re in it for a reason, not just a season and not just a business for them. They have a servant’s heart that we need in our government. So, yeah, we certainly can,” she said.  “I’ve followed Judge Moore’s career for many years, as I said, and the ups and downs and the battles that he’s had inside and outside of the party and always standing up for what he believes is right. Some of the things he’s done, I’ve just gotten a kick out of, and I think they need some of that in Washington—like when he showed up to vote riding a horse, I thought we’d probably do the same thing.

I can see why my mother endorsed this guy!
