They say “Don’t mess with Texas” for a reason but criminals aren’t listening.
Remember the pistol-packing granny from East Texas who used her .38-caliber revolver to defender her home against a masked and armed intruder? Well, a 78-year-old North Houston man did the same when he came out of his home one early morning and was robbed by armed gunmen.
His name was not released, but reports say that he was approached by two men on his property who stole his wallet and tried to get away in a pickup truck. But the elderly man pulled out his gun and fired several shots as they fled the scene.
Listen to how a neighbor described the scene:
“When I laid down, I hear go, ‘Pow, pow, pow, pow’ real loud, and then I heard commotion, like voices.”
The suspect’s truck was later found at a car wash with one dead robber on the inside. The other fled on foot.
The man’s son who was at home at the time of the robbery said his father didn’t mean to kill anyone but felt he had to defend himself. No charges have been filed against him, but an investigation is ongoing.
The elderly gentleman is a landlord over several properties in his neighborhood. He is well-liked by the community. One of his tenants said, “I’m glad that our landlord is OK, ’cause we depend on him a lot. He looks out for us, he makes a lot of repairs around here, and he works very hard.”
Also, he doesn’t deserve to have his property stolen, or his life threatened. But at least the criminals got a quick lesson in Second Amendment rights. They won’t be back, and one of them for sure.
