Meet the Founder of Good News Ministries Terry Modica

Terry exemplifies what all Catholics should strive for. A hunger and thirst for God in one’s life and the accompanying desire to share that received love from God with others. She has had a long life dedicated to preaching and teaching about our Catholic faith. She is warm and friendly and is the type of person you could sit down and have lunch with and just talk about the faith that animates your life. Terry actually has so much more to share than what is in this short interview. But what she does share is a look into a Catholic authors soul that reflects the light of Christ. So, listen to her as she talks about her ministry. It’s time to…

Meet the Founder of Good News Ministries Terry Modica

1. Tell something interesting about yourself.

I was raised by a Protestant ministry, and in my search for the supernatural, I lost Christ by playing around with the occult. In 1977, God rescued me when a friend introduced me to the Holy Spirit. This new life in the Spirit filled me with a hunger for truth. It was then that I felt drawn to the Catholic Mass by Christ Himself because the Eucharist is the ultimate supernatural event. An author since 1982, my husband and I founded, in 1995,

Good News Ministries of Tampa Bay.

This became global when the internet became a real thing. I made one of the first Catholic websites. Now it takes a staff of five—100% donor funded—to keep this ministry going. Since 1999 the core of this ministry are the daily Good News Reflections I’ve written on the scriptures of Mass.

I obtained a degree in Theology and was trained by two lay ministry institutes. Through my writings and speaking, I help people encounter God’s love in a deeper, more personal way while learning how to apply Scripture and Catholic teachings to everyday life. My ministry equips and inspires others to evangelize by imitating Christ, to discern Truth with the Holy Spirit, and to trust in the Father’s love. Since retiring in 2025, my focus now is on book writing and marketing.

2. What makes a good Catholic writer?

A passion to share the Faith in a way that helps others heal and grow stronger in faith.

3. What do you like about being a Catholic/Christian Writer?

Making a difference in my readers’ lives.

4. What is the Main focus of your particular Writing or what do you like to write about?

I write non-fiction (I also published a novel called “Victor” about spiritual warfare), focusing on helping Catholics grow closer to Christ by deepening their relationship with the Holy Spirit and the Father’s love.

5. How does your Catholic Faith influence your writing?

Totally. I write from my own experiences of faith and my struggles that have led to spiritual growth.

6. What’s your favorite article/Post/book/story you have written?

My favorite book is “The Father’s Heart”, which is a 3-part series. Book One is out: Meet the Real Abba Father. Almost everyone has misconceptions about the Father because of the imperfections of human fathers and other authority figures.

The Father’s Heart – by Terry Modica

7. What is your favorite topic/subject to write about?

My favorite themes are healing from father-wounds that interfere with our relationship with God, the Eucharist, and living a purpose-driven life for the Kingdom of God.

8. Favorite scripture verse.

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked …. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers. (Psalm 1:1-3)

9. What Are you currently working on?

Books 2 and 3 of “The Father’s Heart”
Book Two: Love That Heals Your Deepest Longing
Book Three: The Victory of God’s Fatherhood in Our World Today

10. Name a favorite saint or Catholic or some other figure who inspires you in your life.

Father Mike Schmidt: I love how he applies the scriptures to everyday life, as I like to do too. And I learn from him in nearly every homily I watch online, which means a lot because, at my life stage, it’s hard to find a speaker who enlightens me in ways I haven’t heard before.

11. Who is your favorite Living Writer?

Too many to name one.

12. If you could have lunch with any deceased writer who would it be, what would you eat and what would you talk about?

St. Augustine. We’d eat sushi—my favorite and a novelty for him. I’d ask him to tell me about his conversion experience and how I could help others transition from worldly sins to a life in the Holy Spirit.

13. Name a favorite movie/tv show or music you find worth sharing with others.

Leverage, because it’s about criminals who use their skills for good, helping others when no other help is available.

14. Can you see one of your books being made into a movie or tv series? Who would you want to star or direct?

No.

15. Favorite Historical event.

The founding of the USA. It’s a story of overcoming huge odds for the sake of freedom.

My favorite topics are:

God’s Fatherhood — Heal your soul, restore the family, change the culture: Heal from father-wounds that create a false image of our Loving God. Based on my book The Father’s Heart.

God’s Plan for Your Life — Is your life purpose-driven? Have you found your special niche in life? God designed us with talents that no one else can do quite like us. And He equips us to do whatever He calls us to do. There is nothing more enjoyable than discovering and doing the special works that He designed specifically for us. There is nothing more fulfilling than to be what God created us to be. This workshop helps parishes increase stewardship and volunteerism. Based on my workbook Knowing God’s Will and Doing It Well.

Christ in the Eucharist – Be transformed by the True Presence of Jesus in the Catholic Mass. Based on my small group study guide My Soul Shall Be Healed.

Life in the Holy Spirit — Live the gift of holiness and be successful in what you’re called to do. (Future book)

The Victorious Life — Overcome the fear and anxiety that’s caused by today’s world of darkness. (Future book)
